Baseball: Cajuns Baseball Hosts Appalachian State During Ron Guidry Weekend At The Tigue

LAFAYETTE, La. – The 19th-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team is set to face Appalachian State this weekend as it will be Ron Guidry Weekend at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field. The series gets underway on Friday at 6 p.m. with Guidry to throw out the first pitch, while the Cajuns will wear special jersey to honor Guidry.
 
Game two of the series is slated for 6 p.m. on Saturday, while the two teams close out the series on Sunday with a noon first pitch due to travel for App State.
 
Sunday’s contest will be broadcast live on myAcadianaTV and simulcast on ESPN3.com. Fans can also listen to all three games on News Talk 96.5 KPEL-FM with Jay Walker making the call. Live stats and video are available on RaginCajuns.com.
 
Following the games on Friday and Saturday, there will be a live auction at The Tigue for the special Ron Guidry jerseys. Fans can sign up during the game to participate in the aiction.
 
It will also be Strike Out A Stroke weekend at The Tigue with Our Lady of Lourdes to donate $100 to American Stroke Foundation for every strikeout recorded by Ragin’ Cajuns pitchers. Physicians will be on hand Saturday from 4:30-6:30 p.m. to do free stroke screening.
 
Additionally, mothers of the current team members will throw out a first pitch on Sunday in honor of Mother’s Day. Mothers in attendance will receive flowers courtesy of Rouses while supplies last.
 
Due to the car show taking place this weekend in the Cajun Field west lot, parking will be limited adjacent to the "Tigue". Parking will be available in the grass lot next to Moore Field as well as the RCAF ‘A’ Lot for Cajun Field and the north endzone lot.
 
Louisiana (29-16, 14-7 Sun Belt) is coming off of its best offensive weekend of the season as the Cajuns pounded out 45 hits in three games at UT Arlington. The Ragin’ Cajuns bounced back from a 4-1 loss in the series opener to win 6-4 and 19-6 against the Mavericks to claim the squad’s ninth series of the year.
 
The Cajuns will send out its usual rotation against the Mountaineers with sophomore left-hander Gunner Leger (5-3, 2.63 ERA) taking the mound on Friday night. Leger leads the team with seven quality starts in 11 appearances this season. Right-handers Wyatt Marks (3-5, 5.14 ERA) and Nick Lee (6-1, 3.22 ERA) close out the weekend on the bump for Louisiana.
 
Senior Stefan Trosclair became the third person in program history to hit for the cycle in the series finale at UTA. Trosclair is one of four players on the team to post 20-plus RBI this season led by Brian Mills with 31. Mills also had a good showing at UT Arlington going 9-for-15 with five RBI and scored five runs.
 
App State leads the all-time series with the Ragin’ Cajuns 2-1 with the only meeting between the two programs coming a year ago in Boone, N.C. The Mountaineers sandwiched wins around a Cajuns 20-6 blowout victory in game two to take the series.
 
Appalachian State (14-31, 8-16 Sun Belt) comes into the weekend having won three of its last four contests including a series win over Arkansas State. The Mountaineers split a doubleheader with the Red Wolves to open the series and then capped the weekend with a 6-4 victory in the series finale. App State picked up a 10-9 victory over North Carolina A&T in the midweek.
 
The Mountaineers will have an all-true freshman rotation with left-hander Bobby Hampton (1-6, 6.58 ERA) set to make the start on Friday. Right-hander Breydan Gorham (2-4, 4.68 ERA) is slated to take the mound on Saturday, while left-hander Colin Schmid (1-6, 5.62 ERA) will make the start in the series finale.
 
Offensively, App State is hitting .233 as a team with 62 doubles, nine triples and 26 home runs. Tanner Mann-Fix paces the squad with a .306 average, eight doubles, five triples, four home runs and 16 RBI. Matt Vernon has a team-best 32 RBI, hitting .288 with eight doubles, a triple and five home runs.
 
Following the series with the Mountaineers, the Cajuns will open a five-game road swing with a midweek contest at Houston on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
