Jordan Bourque stepped to the plate in the bottom of the 10th inning with a chance to make up for a pair missed opportunities at driving in the go-ahead run in Louisiana’s weekend series opener with Siena Friday evening at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field.

Bourque stranded runners in scoring position in the sixth and eighth innings, but in the extra frame came through for the Ragin’ Cajuns (3-3).

Bourque laid down a squeeze bunt down the first base line to allow Tyler Frederick to score from third base with the winning run in a 4-3 Cajuns victory.

Louisiana and Siena continue the three-game weekend set on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. The Cajuns will send T.J. Geith (0-1, 15.00 ERA) to the mound and Siena will counter with Justin Brantley (0-1, 6.75 ERA).

Frederick led off the bottom of the 10th inning with a ground rule double down the left field line. Greg Fontenot executed a sacrifice bunt to move Frederick to third base.

Siena (0-4) chose to issue an intentional walk to Michael Strentz to set up a potential double play. The Cajuns wanted no part of that and had Bourque lay down the bunt as Frederick came charging for home plate.

The result gave Cajuns reliever Matt Hicks his second win in relief on the young season. Hicks (2-0) took over for starter Joey Satriano in the sixth inning and pitched the final 4 2/3 innings surrendering only one hit.

Siena’s Ryan Poplawski, who had a solid relief outing of his own, was charged with the loss.

Bourque led the Cajuns with two RBI. Frederick, Matt Goulas and Alex Fuselier each posted multiple-hit games.

Louisiana picked up its third straight win at "The Tigue" and improved to 6-0 all-time against Siena.

Fuselier put UL on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning when he launched a solo home run over the right field wall. His roundtripper was the first for the Cajuns this season.

Fontenot doubled to lead off the bottom of the second, moved over on a wild pitch and scored on a Bourque sacrifice fly to increase the Cajuns lead to 2-0.

Louisiana threatened again in the fourth inning getting a one-out triple from Frederick. Siena stater Kyle Sumple induced a grounder from Fontenot at third base and Strentz flew out to right field as Siena escaped without allowing a run.

Sumple wasn’t able to work around a throwing error in the fifth. His error allowed Bourque to reach and advance to second then eventually score on a Ryan Leonards single up the middle to up the UL lead to 3-0.

Three consecutive singles to start the top of the sixth inning put Satriano in trouble as the Saints scratched for a run and had runners on second and third with no outs. After surrendering a sacrifice fly to Kevin Quaranto, Satriano was relieved by Matt Hicks.

Larry Balkwill, the first to face Hicks, grounded out to Jordan Poirrier at second base to allow Siena’s third run of the inning to cross the plate and even the score at 3-all.

Louisiana had a chance to respond, but would leave the bases loaded in the bottom half of the sixth inning.

Pitching prevailed on both sides over the next three innings and the contest entered extra frames.
