Students, alumni, and fans of Ole Miss joined together to put up a billboard slamming the University of Mississippi for choosing a Louisiana Black Bear as the new mascot for the athletic teams.  Located on Highway 6 in Oxford, the billboard has the tagline of "Colonel Reb Forever, Louisiana Black Bear Never". (Photo: special to the Clarion-Ledger)

1. Even though the official mascot Rebel Black Bear, the teams still go by “Rebels.” It’s confusing, we know.

2. They know how to party. Most know of Ole Miss for “The Grove,” but they know how to get down before any sporting event.

3. They’ll still be there. Even with only a few hundred tickets available for the Rebels contingent, Ole Miss fans won’t stay away. After all, nearly 8,000 attend every home game.

4. We understand you prefer “Louisiana.” Here, they prefer “Ole Miss,” not the “University of Mississippi.”

5. Be prepared to hear the words “Hotty Toddy.” A lot.

6. Future New York Yankees skipper Casey Stengel once coached Ole Miss, back in 1914.

7. The Ole Miss coach, Mike Bianco, played at LSU and was the coach at McNeese State.

8. Ole Miss fans like beer showers. Too bad this is not at Swayze Field so you could see the post-home run celebrations in right field.

9. It’s been a while. The last time the Rebels made the College World Series was 1972.

10. The mention of the 2009 super regional still hurts. Ole Miss was five outs away from punching a ticket to Omaha before falling apart.
