Athletics: UL football, baseball teams have highest GPAs in Sun Belt

Tim Buckley, The Advertiser, September 18, 2014

The UL football and baseball teams were recognized today for having the highest grade point averages in the Sun Belt Conference last school year.

Both were announced as winners of the SBC’s Team Academic Awards.

On the field, UL’s football team also won a third straight New Orleans Bowl last season and the Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team won the Sun Belt Tournament and advanced to an NCAA Super Regional.

The academic award is calculated by totaling individual GPAs of team members, then dividing by the total number of student-athletes on that particular team.

All GPAs are based on the previous school year and include the total GPA for the year (not the average of semesters).

The league did not release specific GPAs.

South Alabama had a Sun Belt-high four teams recognized (men’s cross country, women’s cross country, men’s track and field and softball)

UL, Arkansas State (women’s soccer and women’s tennis), UL Monroe (men’s basketball and volleyball) and Troy (men’s golf and women’s track and field) each had two teams recognized.
