Athletics: History – SLI hires Georgia Tech coach as athletic directorThe Advertiser, July 19, 2015 Feb. 10, 1960 A.G. “Whitey” Urban was named athletic director at Southwestern Louisiana Institute. The appointment was announced by SLI President Joel L. Fletcher. A former collegiate boxer and football player, Urban was an offensive line coach for the last nine years at Georgia Tech. The search had continued for six months, with Fletcher challenging alumni to help support the recruiting process. Urban would start March 1. The Daily Advertiser is celebrating its progress toward 150 years in business on Sept. 22, 2015.
