Athletic Administration: Former UL athletic director Farmer lands new job

Former UL athletic director Scott Farmer has been hired to the same post at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, that school announced this week.

UT-Permian Basin is an NCAA Division II program located in Odessa, Texas.

The school’s athletic teams, including one in football, play out of the Lone Star Conference, which is composed mostly of programs in Texas and New Mexico, including Angelo State, West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico.

Farmer was ousted as UL’s athletic director last November.

He accepted a UL faculty position in the School of Kinesiology at the time of his forced resignation, saying then during a tearful news conference to announce his exit that the job demands of the athletic administration lifestyle “take a toll on you.”

Farmer spent nearly 10 years at UL, including six as athletic director.

The former Georgia Southern swim coach went to UL from fellow Sun Belt Conference-member Troy, where he spent eight years in athletic administration.

“Scott brings a wealth of experience and a proven record of accomplishment for building successful athletics programs,” UTPB president Sandra Woodley said in a statement.

While at UL, Farmer introduced and oversaw an athletic facilities masterplan that included — among other projects — the construction of an athletic performance center that houses the Ragin’ Cajuns football team and the addition of new seating in one end zone at expanded Cajun Field.

Farmer was replaced on a permanent basis in February by Bryan Maggard, a former executive associate athletic director at Missouri.
