2010 Bill Bass OpenIt’s Fall. It’s Homecoming. It’s gorgeous outside, and you should be on the golf course. The Bill Bass Open golf tournament, presented by the UL Alumni Association, provides you with that opportunity as well as a chance to gather with friends, Ragin’ Cajuns alumni and former athletes for an afternoon of fun and good times. The four-person scramble tournament, which raises funds for both the Ragin’ Cajun golf team and the Bill Bass Scholarship Fund, will be held for the second straight year at Acadian Hills Country Club. Tournament organizers have already received inquiries about this year’s event, following last year’s record number of 131 entries. "We’re pretty certain that we’re going to have a full field again and that we may have to limit entries," said tournament committeeman Bob Bass. "We got nothing but good comments from golfers that played in the tournament last year, and with what we’ve added to the tournament this year we think it’s going to be a great event." The tournament is held annually on the Friday of Homecoming week, and this year is one day before UL’s Oct. 23 Homecoming contest against Western Kentucky. Registration and lunch begin at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon. Entry forms are available at most area courses and golf outlets as well as at the UL Alumni Association offices and the UL Athletic Department, and were mailed to players who participated in last year’s tournament. For the first time, an entry form is available online by clicking on the Bill Bass Open logo, and players can submit entries there. The tournament will feature several former Cajun golfers and other celebrities, and members of this year’s UL team will be on several tee boxes to hit shots for each team. In addition, all tournament players will have the chance to putt for a $5,000 cash prize. Entry fee is $125 per player or $500 per team which includes lunch, food and refreshments on the course and an expanded gift bag, and all golfers and Cajun fans are invited to take part. Players may enter as individuals or may make up their own four-person team, with player handicaps used in a point system to provide balanced competition. Entry deadline is Friday, Oct. 15, or until a full 30-team field is reached. "We don’t want anyone who wants to play to get left out, because our main goal is to provide a fun opportunity for both alumni and fans," Bass said. "But if we reach our maximum numbers we won’t be able to accommodate last-minute entries. That’s why we want players to enter as early as possible." More information on the event is available from the UL Alumni Association at 482-0904 or Dan McDonald at 857-8754 or danmcdonald@cox.net. CLICK HERE to download the flyer and mail it in.
