168 Ragin’ Cajuns Earn Sun Belt Academic Honors
LAFAYETTE – A combined total of 168 student-athletes from the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Department of Athletics 16 sports programs earned a 3.0 GPA or higher during the 2016-17 academic year and were recognized on the Sun Belt Conference’s Commissioner’s List and Academic Honor Roll.
The Commissioner’s List honors student-athletes who maintained a 3.5 grade point average or better during the academic year while the Academic Honor Roll honors those student-athletes who maintained a GPA between 3.0 and 3.49.
The group of Ragin’ Cajuns honored included 79 who made the Sun Belt Commissioner’s List and 89 who were on the Sun Belt Academic Honor Roll.
Each sport contributed multiple honorees for the Ragin’ Cajuns with the football (27), softball (26) and men’s track and field/cross country (23) teams recording 20-plus student-athletes each.
Softball and women’s cross country had the highest percentage of student-athletes honored, both seeing over 75 percent of their roster earn a 3.0 GPA or higher. Men’s cross country, soccer, men’s tennis, men’s track and field, women’s track and field and volleyball each had over 50 percent of their roster represented.
Over 2,100 Sun Belt Conference student-athletes were named to the 2016-17 Commissioner’s List and Academic Honor Roll, conference-wide, with 1,087 student-athletes on the Commissioner’s List and 1,044 student-athletes on the Academic Honor Roll list.
