Beryl Shipley Athletic Hall of Fame Reenactment – Blackham Coliseum – Nov. 27, 2016Earlier this year, Coach Beryl Shipley along with three former athletes was inducted into the UL Athletic Hall of Fame. Click here for the story by Kevin Foote of the Daily Advertiser published on Nov. 6, 2016. With the Cajundome undergoing extensive renovations this fall, some of the early basketball games were played at Blackham. This offered Coach Marlin and his staff a wonderful opportunity to schedule a reenactment of Coach Shipley’s induction into the Hall of Fame in a setting where he lead his Bulldogs and Ragin’ Cajuns teams to national prominence. The current team did an excellent job of securing another win and used a strong second half to overcome an excellent Texas Southern team. Click here for the report of that game. Players representing his first team and his last were present to pay tribute to their beloved coach. Click here to view Coach Shipley’s Athletic Network Profile.
It was a blessing and an honor to have known him since I was an undergraduate. He was one of the real “giants” in the coaching profession and one of the best “people-persons” one could meet.
Dolores and most of his family attended either his on the field recognition at Homecoming or the Reenactment or both. The photo gallery includes many familiar faces of those who follow Cajun Basketball.
