Ragin’ Cajuns are In the Game

Cheryl Hidalgo, Public Relations and News Services, May 11, 2006 –

Always wanted to see Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team play in Rosenblatt Stadium? Now’s your chance.
EA Sports’ new video game, MVP 06 NCAA Baseball, makes this dream come true, albeit an animated version. Released in January, the game features the nation’s top 128 collegiate baseball programs and conferences, including Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns.
“This is the very first collegiate baseball video game, and we are really excited to be a part of it. Last summer, we sent photos of every piece of the team’s uniform, down to batting gloves, to EA Sports in Canada, where the game was produced. The final result is a video game that captures not only our look, but the action and tradition of a real baseball game," said Cheryl Hidalgo, UL Lafayette assistant director of trademark licensing.
Highlights of the game include its Load and Fire Batting System, which allows players to load their back swings as the ball accelerates. Players can also choose to play in 19 authentic ballparks, including Rosenblatt Stadium, home of the NCAA College World Series in Omaha.
Customization is a key component of the game. Features like Create-a-Player, Create-a-Team and Custom Ballpark allow users to personalize the experience. In Deeper Dynasty Mode, players can build a college dynasty with year-round recruiting and stat tracking.
MVP 06 NCAA Baseball is the first video game to implement ESPN real-time features, including an ESPN ticker and live ESPN Sportscenter radio updates. To add to the reality of the game, ESPN’s Mike Patrick and former All-American Kyle Peterson call the action.
MVP 06 NCAA Baseball, which joins NCAA Football and NCAA March Madness, is available in PlayStation 2 and Xbox formats.
