NEW ROLE: Crowley native and former UL softball and women’s basketball standout Alyson Habetz got a promotion Friday to associate head softball coach at Alabama. Habetz had served as the Crimson Tide’s assistant coach for the past nine years.
Habetz broke barriers as the state’s first female to play high school baseball while at Notre Dame, and earned All-America honors at UL before playing four years with the Colorado Silver Bullets and the Long Beach Aces women’s touring baseball teams. She went to Alabama when fellow UL alum Pat Murphy took over as the Tide’s head coach in 1999.
Since then, Alabama has made nine straight NCAA Tournament appearances including College World Series trips in 2000, 2003, 2005 and 2006.
