Carrey Continues Golf’s Summer Success

Junior Devin Carrey advanced to match play at the Canadian Amateur
Championship before falling to the top seed 2 and 1.

SASKATOON, Saskatchewan, Canada-Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns golfer Devin Carrey
advanced to match play at the Canadian Amateur Championship conducted by the
Royal Canadian Golf Association.

Carrey, who earlier qualified to play in the Canadian Amateur Championship,
advanced through the 36-hole medal qualifier to match play. The field began
with 161 players and was reduced to 64 for match play.

Carrey, the No. 33 seed, beat Ohio State’s Brandon Markiw 2-up in their first-
round match. The Surrey, B.C. native was one down through 15 holes, but
rallied by making birdies on two out of the last three holes for the come
from behind victory.

In the Round of 32, Carrey was matched up with the No. 1 seed Kris Wasylowich
of Lethbridge, Alta.  The pair battled back and forth exchanging the lead
before Wasylowich topped Carrey 2 and 1.

Carrey’s day was highlighted by sinking a hole-in-one on the 224 yard, par-3
11th hole.  The lead would not hold up as Carrey fell on the 17th hole.

During the 2006-07 season, Carrey boasted a 75.3 stroke average.  His six-
under par 66 at the Louisiana Classics was the lowest single round score for
any Cajuns player on the year.  Carrey helped the Cajuns claim the 2007 Sun
Belt Conference Championship and individually, he ended the year with nine
top-25 finishes.
