PUERTA VALLARTA, Mexico-Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns golf team used a six-under
par team performance to increase their lead at the GADO/North Texas Classic
and claim the tournament title.  The Cajuns won by 22 strokes, which is the
largest margin of victory in tournament history.

The Cajuns (278-288-282–848) began the day with a 13-stroke edge, but
continued their solid play in the final round.  As a team, the Cajuns turned
in a six-under par performance to finish out the tournament 16 under par.

CSU-Northridge (870) turned in a two-over par performance to jump into second
place.  New Orleans (872) jumped into the No. 3 spot with a two-over par
performance.  Southeastern Louisiana (873) and Middle Tennessee (876)
finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Tournament host North Texas finished in eighth with a final total of 885.

The Ragin’ Cajuns used four sub-par performances to extend their lead in the
final round.  The Cajuns had a trio of golfers finish in the top-10 with
another finishing in the top-15.  Three of the Cajuns golfers finished under
par with one golfer closing out the tournament at even par.

Thomas Petts (North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) paced the Cajuns
carding a two-under par round of 70 to finish the tournament in a tie for
fifth.

Michael Smith (Lafayette, La.) was the picture of consistency carding his
third straight round of 71.  He finished tied for seventh for the tournament
at three under par.

Devin Carrey (South Surrey, British Columbia, Canada) recorded a one-under
par round of 71 to finish the North Texas Classic at one-under par in a tie
for 10th.

Dustin Petit (Luling, La.) tied Petts with a low round of 70 on the final day
of competition to finish the tournament in 13th.

Rounding out the scoring for the Cajuns was Morgan Landry (Lafayette, La.)
who finished the tournament tied for 28th at seven over par.

The Ragin’ Cajuns golf team will return to the links on Feb. 25-26 as they
head to Houston, Texas to participate in the All-American Intercollegiate.
