Ashley Brignac struck out 13 of the 15 batters she faced in her first perfect game as a Cajun.

LAFAYETTE-Ashley Brignac (River Ridge, La.) faced just 15 batters in the No.
17 Cajuns’ 12-0 victory over IUPUI on Tuesday night at Alfred and Helen
Lamson Ragin’ Cajuns Softball Park.  The freshman tossed a perfect game
retiring 13 of the 15 batters who stepped to the plate by way of strikeout.

Brignac (10-3) threw just 65 pitches in the game, but registered 50 strikes
en route to a season-high 13 strikeouts.  Brignac started off the game
retiring the first nine batters she faced on strikes.  After an infield pop-
up, the freshman phenomenon fanned the next four batters before inducing a
ground ball to end the game.  Only two of Brignac’s 13 Ks were looking
strikeouts.

Only two balls were put into play against Brignac.  Melissa Verde (Beaumont,
Texas) caught a pop up in the fourth inning and fielded a ground ball in the
fifth to end the game.

Not to be out done, the Cajuns’ offense scored 12 runs on 11 hits.  UL also
took advantage of nine walks by Jaguar pitching.  Seven different Louisiana
players recorded hits in the game with three batters collecting multiple
hits.

Holly Tankersley (Kirbyville, Texas) finished the game 3-for-3 with four runs
scored and three runs batted in.  She belted her team-leading ninth home run
of the game.  The homer tied the senior Alana Addison (1999-02) for third
most in Ragin’ Cajuns history.  Tankersley is just one long ball shy of Lacey
Bertucci (2004-07) for second place all time with 58 home runs.

Gabriele Bridges (Lafitte, La.) drove in a career-best six batters in the
contest.  She finished the game 2-for-2 with a double and a walk.  Her six
RBI is the most for the Cajuns this season, topping five RBI performances
from Tankersley and Vanessa Soto (San Diego, Calif.) earlier in the year.

The Cajuns had a pair of players score four runs in the game.  Tankersley and
Brooke Brodhead both scored four runs each, marking the first time this
season a Cajuns’ player has scored more than three runs in a game.

The Ragin’ Cajuns continue the twin bill with game two against IUPUI.
