  Louisiana’s Lamar Morgan was announced by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) as a member of the 2008 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a 3.2 GPA or better. A total of 433 players from 225 schools qualified for membership in the society’s second year, an increase of more than 25 percent from the inaugural class in 2007.

The NFF Hampshire Honor Society capitalizes on the NFF’s current National Scholar-Athlete program, greatly expanding the number of scholar-athletes the NFF can recognize each year and further strengthening its leadership role in encouraging academic performance by the student-athletes who play football at the more than 700 college and universities with football programs.

Qualifications for membership in the inaugural NFF National Honor Society include:

·         Being a starter or a significant substitute in one’s last year of eligibility at an accredited NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III, or an NAIA college or university;
·         Achieving a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout entire course of undergraduate study; and
·         Meeting all NCAA-mandated progress towards degree requirements.

Morgan (Copperas Cove, Texas), as well as several of his former teammates, eagerly anticipates the upcoming NFL Draft on April 26-27.  The 6-foot-2 safety and semifinalist for the 2007 Draddy Trophy headlines the list of Cajuns looking to hear their name called during draft weekend.
Defensive linemen Korey Raymond (LaPlace, La.) and Rodney Hardeway (Tyler, Texas) and offensive lineman Jesse Newman (Powell River, B.C.) will also wait to see if they are selected.
Morgan’s teammate in the Texas vs. the Nation all-star bowl, cornerback Kyle Ward, hopes his all-star performance parlay’s into an NFL contract.  Fellow corner, Jarrett Jones, could draw free agent interest as well after a strong Pro Day performance.
The NFL draft begins with the first two rounds on Saturday, April 26 starting at 2pm (CT) and continues until the final pick is made on Sunday evening.  ESPN will provide extensive coverage of the draft.
