Softball: Tankersley Garners First Team All-American Accolades
Tankersley Garners First Team All-American Accolades
LAFAYETTE-Holly Tankersley (Kirbyville, Texas) has been dubbed as arguably
one of the best players in collegiate softball to not be an All-American.
Well that all changed on Wednesday afternoon as the senior outfielder earned
first-team NFCA All-American accolades for her efforts on the diamond.
Tankersley becomes the 36th All-American in UL history, joining Stefni
Whitton (1990), Dorsey Steamer (1992), Kyla Hall (1993, 1994), Kathy Morton
(1994, 1995), Stephanie DeFeo (1994), Cheryl Longeway (1995, 1996), Tiffany
Clark (2000), Brooke Mitchell (2004) and Danyele Gomez (2006) on the first
team.
Tankersley is the eighth All-American under co-head coaches Michael and
Stefni Lotief.
The senior outfielder leads the Cajuns in batting average, slugging
percentage, on-base percentage, total bases, hits, RBI, runs scored,
intentional walks and home runs. Tankersley leads the team with 26 multiple
hit games and 18 mulit-RBI games.
She ranks nationally in batting average, home runs per game, RBI, walks,
slugging percentage, runs per game, toughest to strikeout, on-base percentage
and home runs.
Tankersley has reached base safely in every game she has played this season.
She has hit safely in 50 of the 62 games she has played. In the remaining 12
games, she reached on a walk in nine of those games, and reached on either a
fielder’s choice or error in the other three games.
Tankersley has made her mark in the Ragin’ Cajuns annals. She ranks first in
career walks at UL, while holding second place in the record book in runs
scored, home runs, RBI and total bases. Tankersley ranks third in times hit
by pitch.
Her numbers this season have the senior ranked in the top five in seven
different single season categories for the Cajuns. Tankersley currently
ranks first in batting average and second in home runs, RBI, total bases and
slugging percentage for a single season. She also ranks in the top-five in
hits and walks.
The All-American honor is just another in the long line of awards for the
senior this season. Tankersley was also named first-team NFCA All-South
Region, Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, first-team All-SBC, NFCA
Leadoff Classic Most Outstanding Player, Louisiana Classics Most Outstanding
Player. She was a multiple SBC Player of the Week and LSWA Player of the
Week honoree.
Tankersley and the Ragin’ Cajuns begin the 2008 Women’s College World Series
in Oklahoma City, Okla. at Noon on Thursday at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium
against No. 1 Florida.
