Sports Information: Advertiser sports staff has big haul – Dan McDonald HonoredFrom staff reports • July 12, 2008 KENNER – Among a host of awards received during the annual Louisiana Sports Writers Association convention banquet on Friday night, The Daily Advertiser was honored as the Best Section in Class II (49,999 and under circulation). In all, the Advertiser staff was honored with nine first-place awards on top of winning the newspaper and individual sweepstakes. The New Orleans Times-Picayune (50,000 and above) matched those numbers in Class I. Individually, Kevin Foote was honored for first place in prep feature, prep writer of the year, columnist of the year and topped the individual sweepstakes for winning Class II’s most awards. Dan McDonald won in the pro event and prep event categories, and shared the Sportswriter of the Year honor with Bob Tompkins from the Town Talk in Alexandria. Brady Aymond won in series/enterprise, while the Advertiser’s high school football preview was selected the Best Special Section. Additionally, Glenn Guilbeau – who serves as the LSU beat writer for the Advertiser and four other state Gannett newspapers – was named the college event winner and columnist of the year in Class I.
