New Haven, Conn. – Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns senior running back Tyrell Fenroy was named the Walter Camp Football Foundation Bowl Subdivision Offensive Player of the Week for games ending October 4.
Fenroy continued his dominance on the ground, rushing for a school record 297 yards on only 20 carries (14.9 yards per carry average) in Louisiana’s nine-point victory at ULM.  Brian Mitchell previously held the Cajuns record with 271 rushing yards vs. Colorado State on 11-21-87.
Fenroy was also awarded a “helmet sticker” from ESPN College Football Final.
He scored three touchdowns on runs of 89, 52 and 80 yards.  In fact, he also had a nine-yard touchdown run called back on a holding penalty late in the game.  The biggest of his runs – an 80-yard TD – came on the Cajuns first offensive play after ULM closed within 37-35 with 5:42 remaining in the game.
Fenroy is 30 rushing yards from breaking the Sun Belt Conference rushing record.  He is 250 rushing yards from becoming just the seventh player in NCAA history with four 1,000-yard seasons, joining Tony Dorsett, Amos Lawrence, Denvis Manns, Ron Dayne, Cedric Benson and DonTrell Moore.  Fenroy is also the NCAA’s active leader in career rushing yards with 4,021 for his career.
The senior has gained over 180 yards rushing in each of his last three games and now ranks third in the country in rushing yards per game (150.0) and scoring points per game (12.0).  The Cajuns are the nation’s leader in rushing yards per game (331.0) and rank eighth in total offense (517.0).
About the Award: This is the fifth consecutive year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
Walter Camp, "The Father of American football," first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp – a former Yale University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side. The Walter Camp Football Foundation – a New Haven-based all-volunteer group – was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All-America team.  More information is available at www.waltercamp.org.
