2008 Homecoming Court Announced

LESLIE SALOOM NAMED HOMECOMING QUEEN 2008

 

Leslie Marcelle Saloom of Lafayette will reign as UL Lafayette’s 2008 Homecoming Queen. Saloom is the daughter of Judge and Mrs. Douglas J. Saloom of Lafayette and the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Herman Bienvenu and the retired Judge and Mrs. Kaliste J. Saloom. Sigma Gamma Mu, the Communication Honor Society, nominated her to the Homecoming Court. Saloom is a senior majoring in Public Relations with a minor in Business.

She is a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America, the Association of Future Alumni, the Honors Program, Rho Lambda (Greek Honor Society) and Phi Kappa Phi (Business Honor Society), as well as being vice president of Public Relations of Kappa Delta, staff liaison for the Ragin’ Peppers, president of the Order of Omega (Greek Honor Society), and an intern in the Office of Compliance in the UL Lafayette Athletic Department.

She is the recipient of the Margaret Budd Haemer and Founders Scholarship from Kappa Delta Sorority and has made the Dean’s List every semester since 2005. She is the Shamrock chairperson helping to raise money and promote awareness for Prevent Child Abuse America and Prevent Child Abuse Acadiana.

Maids of the court are Megan Broussard of Lafayette, Britany Cormier of Lafayette, Sarah Delahoussaye of Lafayette, and Margo Huval of Lafayette.

Megan Broussard is a senior in Public Relations with minors in Business and Spanish. The Public Relations Student Society of America nominated her to the court. She is the daughter of Brandon and Mary Broussard of Lafayette.

Broussard is a member of Kappa Delta, the Blue Key Honor Society, Sigma Gamma Mu, Phi Beta Delta (International Honor Society), Phi Kappa Phi and a Circle K Club member as well. She is also a member and former president of PRSSA, where she was named Outstanding PRSSA member last year. She is a former president of the College of Liberal Arts with the Student Government Association, student ambassador for the Association of Future Alumni, student editor of La Louisiane magazine, editor of the Greeks and Groups section of L’Acadien, a member of the UL Lafayette Food Advisory Board and a contributing writer to The Vermillion.

She received the 2008 Jack H. Sanders Statewide Memorial Public Relations Award, participated in the Summer 2008 Study Abroad Program in France, was PRSSA Member of the Year in 2007-08, was SGA President of the Year in 2007 and she is active with Habitat for Humanity, the Children’s Museum, Games of Acadiana and has been a judge for the district History Fair.

She received the following scholarships: The UL Lafayette Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship for the College of Liberal Arts, Liberal Arts A.L. Barcelona Endowed Scholarship and the Calvin J. Lear Memorial Non-Endowed Scholarship.

Britany Cormier, a senior in Public Relations, was nominated by the UPC Traditions Committee. She is the daughter of Chris Cormier and Troy and Jade Richard of Texas.

Cormier is a member of the Ragin’ Peppers, the Student Government Association, the UPC Executive Board, the UPC Traditions Committee, Events Committee, Spirit Committee and AACC. She is also active with the Panhellenic Council, Blue Key Honor Society, Ragin’ Royalty, Psychology Colloquium, Blue Ribbon Committee, Association of Future Alumni, Student Orientation Staff and was a member of Dr. Savoie’s transitional team.

She was a maid on the 2007 Homecoming Court and was the 2007 Greek Woman of the Year, team captain and participant in Up Til Dawn since 2005, and is a volunteer for Adopt-a-Road, Habitat for Humanity, Camp Cajun and St. Jude fundraisers.

She is also the New Member Educator and Member Development
Chair with Delta Delta Delta Sorority and NPC Delegate. With Rho Lambda Honor Society, she is president and is a former president of the Panhellenic Council. She is also former president of the Order of Omega Greek Honor Society.

Sarah Delahoussaye is a junior majoring in Kinesiology – Exercise Science. She was nominated by the Kinesiology Professional Association, where she served as president from 2997-2008 and Public Relations chair from 2006-2007. Her parents are Brian and Elvie Delahoussaye of Lafayette.

She is involved in the Student Orientation Staff and the Association of Future Alumni. She was the Intramurals chair and the Parent’s Club chair of Kappa Delta Sorority, and worked in Business Services at the university.

She plans to attend physical therapy school upon graduation in Spring 2010. She enjoys running and has completed the Austin Half Marathon in February 2008.

Margo Huval is a senior in Finance. She is the daughter of James and Phyllis Huval of Duson. Kappa Delta Sorority nominated her to Homecoming Court.

Huval is Kappa Delta president, treasurer of the Association of Future Alumni and a member of the Student Alumni Ambassadors, the Blue Key Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi, Rho Lambda and the Order of Omega.

She was selected for Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and is planning to attend law school.

Nominees for the Homecoming Court are submitted by campus organizations. The senior football players choose the court after being interviewed by student leaders.
