Exhibits at Dupré Library Explore Spring Sports

The exhibit in the first floor foyer and Grand Hallway focuses on the history of spring sports on campus. The exhibit utilizes photos, programs, trading cards, handbooks, media guides, newspaper articles, and other documents to highlight the histories of baseball, softball, golf, tennis, and track and field. A flier announcing a baseball game between the Cincinnati Reds and Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute in 1916 states, “You Might Just as Well Come to the Game as Everybody is Closing up Shop.” A playbook displays statistics for a baseball game between Southwestern and Lafayette Southern Pacific teams at Girard Field on May 14, 1925. Dr. I. Bruce Turner, Head of Special Collections, created this exhibit. It will be available through the end of March, 2009.
