Kyle Pritchard shot five under par for the tournament to finish in a tie for first and help the Cajuns to a first place finish.

JONESBORO, Ark.-Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns golf team picked up a first place finish in their final tune up for the Sun Belt Conference Championship as they came away with a three-stroke victory at the Red Wolf Classic in Jonesboro, Ark.

The win marked the second victory for the golf team under first-year head coach Theo Sliman.  The finish also marks the fifth consecutive tournament in which the Cajuns finished in the top five.  In 11 tournaments this golf season, the Ragin’ Cajuns have finished in the top 10 ten times.

The Cajuns were led by junior Kyle Pritchard.  The San Antonio native tied for first place at the conclusion of three rounds.  Jad Sinclair of Central Arkansas was medalist after winning the first playoff hole with Pritchard and Todd Obergoenner of Southern Illinois.  In his final round, Pritchard turned in an even par round of 72 for his third consecutive round of par or better.  For the tournament, the junior finished five under par.

Philipp Fendt also placed in the top 10 in the tournament.  The true freshman shot even par for the tournament to tie for eighth place.

Devin Carrey turned in a two-over par final round of 74 to finish the tournament in a tie for 21st.

Rounding out the scoring for the Cajuns were Dustin Petit and Thomas Petts.  The duo each tied for 49th.  Both Petit and Petts saved their best rounds for last as Petit shot a four-under par round of 68 to close out the tournament and Petts carded a one-over par 73.

Andrew Noto, who competed as an individual, also tied with Petit and Petts in 49th.

“I am extremely proud of way the guys played during this tournament, especially Kyle” Sliman remarked.  “I think this was a great way to head into the Sun Belt Tournament.  We are playing extremely good golf right now and we are looking to take that momentum into the conference championship.”

The Ragin’ Cajuns will compete in the Sun Belt Conference Championships on April 20-22 at Cypresswood in Houston, Texas.
