Football: Fisher & Bustle Preseason All-SBC
www.ragincajuns.com – With the start of college football around the corner, the Sun Belt Conference is set to host its annual media days on Monday and Tuesday morning. The 2009 web-based edition of SBC media days will be available to media members nationwide.
The first order of business by the conference was to announce the pre-season football team as voted on by the SBC-member coaches and select members of the media.
Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns garnered two players to that list – senior center Chris Fisher and senior guard Brad Bustle.
The accolades keep pouring in for both players. Both first team All-Sun Belt selections a year ago, Fisher and Bustle have already been named to the 2009 Lombardi Award Watch List.
The pair has helped the Cajuns become one of the most dominating running games in the country. Since 2006, the Cajuns have rushed for 8,447 yards and 75 scores, including 3,164 yards last season – 7th in the nation.
They were vital parts of the offensive line that helped the Cajuns roll up school records in rushing yards, rushing yards per game, total offensive yards, total offensive yards per game and touchdowns in 2008. The Cajuns led the SBC in offensive yards per play, total offensive yards, total yards per game, touchdowns and third down conversion percentage.
Bustle and Fisher blocked for three seasons for running back Tyrell Fenroy, who became just the 7th player in NCAA history with four consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons. They also blocked for and protected quarterback Michael Desormeaux, who became just the 8th QB in NCAA history with back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons.
For the second consecutive season, Fisher also appears on the Rimington Trophy Watch List, an award given to the best center in the nation. He was named to the All-Sun Belt team in 2007 as a sophomore and tabbed a Freshman All-American by The Sporting News in 2006.
