Former UL golfer, Devin Carrey, posted an eagle on the 14th hole and birdied the last two holes in the final round at the Canadian Tour’s Fall Qualifying School to close with a 68 on Saturday, earning his tour card for the Canadian Professional Golf Tour. Carrey finished the tournament tied for 10th place at three-under.
Only the top 15 finishers at Hidden Lake Golf Course in Burlington, Ontario were awarded tour cards.
"I’m very excited for Devin," said head coach Theo Sliman. "It’s a great testament to his work ethic and what kind of player he is. Just six months ago he was playing for UL and now he’s moving on to the next level. He will continue to represent the best of Louisiana both on and off the course."
Carrey started the four-day event with a three-over round of 74. But bounced back over the next three days notching rounds of 69 (-2), 70 (-1) and 68 (-3). His opening round was the highest first round score posted by any of the top-15 qualifiers.
Over his four year career for the Ragin’ Cajuns, Carrey posted 17 top-10 finishes in 37 tournaments played. He claimed medalist honors three times, including winning Battle of the Bend tournament in 2007 and the Mean Green Classic in 2007 and again in 2008.
Now with his Canadian tour card, Carrey will join three other former Cajun golfers who are currently playing professional golf. Greg Sonnier and Michael Smith currently play on the Adams Golf Pro Tour Series. B.C. Thibeaux III is currently playing on the NGA Hooters Pro Golf Tour.
