Louisiana Softball Set To Host Fan Day

www.ragincajuns.com – In anticipation of the upcoming season, Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns softball team will hold Fan Day on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 2:00 p.m. CT. Fans are encouraged to come out to Lamson Park and cheer on the Cajuns as they take McClennan Junior College as the fall season winds down.

Fans will enjoy a day of softball, delicious jambalaya, soft drinks and a chance to meet the 2009-10 squad. The team will be available for an autograph session following the game against McClennan. Admission to the event is free to the public.

The 2009-10 Fan Day is sponsored by Fire & Safety Specialists and Coca-Cola.

The Cajuns will play their last day of fall ball on Friday, Oct. 23 against Galveston College. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. CT at Lamson Park.

Cajuns Reach Out To Community

www.ragincajuns.com – Louisiana‘s Ragin’ Cajuns Women’s Basketball team will be reaching out to the Lafayette area over next few weeks, participating in a number of community service events. The Cajuns will begin the month visiting local elementary schools and helping out with local giveaways.

On Wednesday Oct. 13, the Cajuns will be reading to the Pre-K and Kindergarten classes at J. W. Faulk Elementary School during their Read-A-Thon Community Service Month. The players will be reading to the students and engaging them in question and answer sessions to help promote education and reading. Along with J. W. Faulk, the basketball team will visit Earnest Gallet Elementary, Katherine Drexel and Immaculate Heart of Mary Elementary.

On the morning of Oct. 16, the Cajuns will lend a hand with the Faith House of Acadiana, a Shelter for Battered Women and Children. Team members will assist in giving away items at the Wal-Mart on Ambassador Caffery Parkway to people in need.

To wrap up the month, the Cajuns will be joining up with the I COULD BE Mentoring Program based out of New York, NY. This program is offered in New York, Chicago, and California for the less fortunate and challenged students. The internet-based program is a way for players to connect and act as a mentor for kids across the nation. UL’s Women’s Basketball team will be the only NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Program that will be participating in the program. The student-athletes will have the opportunity to communicate with students on a weekly basis and receive community service hours throughout the year.
