Football: Toronto Drafts Cajuns Jamal
Ragin’ Cajuns offensive lineman Nasser Jamal was selected in the Canadian Football League draft over the weekend. Jamal was the first pick of the sixth round, 40th overall, by the Toronto Argonauts.
Jamal has faced an injury plagued college career, limiting the Vancouver, B.C. native to just eight games. The fifth-year senior is expected to return to Louisiana for the 2010 season. He enters fall drills competing for playing time at right tackle. Two Ragin’ Cajuns have now been drafted in the last three CFL Drafts, as Jesse Newman was the third overall pick by the Calgary Stampeders in the 2008 CFL Draft. UL has a long history of players with success in the CFL. Just last season, former Cajuns standout Fred Stamps had 85 receptions for 1,402 yards and eight touchdowns en route to 2009 CFL All-Star honors with the Edmonton Eskimos.
