T.J. Geith out-dueled Joe Zimmerman and Louisiana scored in timely situations to capture a 4-1 win over New Orleans Saturday afternoon at Maestri Field.

With the win the Ragin’ Cajuns (30-16, 15-8 Sun Belt) posted their 11th consecutive Sun Belt victory establishing a new school record for consecutive conference victories. UL also secured the 12th season of 30-plus wins in the Tony Robichaux Era.

Kyle Olasin broke a 1-all tie in the sixth when he scored from third base on a double steal attempt. Olasin then delivered a two-out RBI single in the eighth inning for a 3-1 edge.

Another two-out, run-scoring base hit came in the ninth off the bat of Lance Marvel providing an insurance run.

Those situations made a winner out of Geith who tossed a season-high 7 2/3 innings and tied his season-high with seven strikeouts.

Joey Satriano tossed the final 1 1/3 innings holding the Privateers (11-33, 2-22 Sun Belt) to one hit for his fourth save.

The Ragin’ Cajuns and Privateers concluded the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. Michael Cook gets the start for Louisiana and he’ll be opposed by UNO’s John Pivach.

UL clinched its fifth consecutive series victory and inched one win closer to sweeping its fourth straight SBC series.

Zimmerman was the hard-luck loser for the Privateers. He tossed eight innings and held the Cajuns to three runs and five hits.

The teams traded runs in the second inning with Louisiana’s coming on a Chad Keefer solo home run and UNO’s delivered on a RBI single from Tyler Sanford.

With Privateers on second and third and one out Tyler Frederick made a heads-up play on a grounder to keep the score tied. He would catch Rodarrick Jones in a rundown between third and home for the second out and Matt Goulas made a spectacular grab in foul territory for the final out.

Geith and Zimmerman went into cruise control over the next four innings with the only run scored coming off the double steal by the Cajuns in the sixth which scored Olasin.

Geith retired 12 of the next 14 UNO hitters he faced and Zimmerman retired 10 of 14 Cajuns hitters during the stretch.
