Louisiana’s Lindsay Brown was named the Sun Belt Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

The senior libero from Yorba Linda, Calif., averaged 5.70 digs in three matches played this weekend, collecting a team-best 26 in the match against Albany at the Lamar Tournament in Beaumont, Texas.

Brown’s 57 digs on the weekend inched her closer to the rally era record for career digs. She is just 29 away from passing Erika Castro’s (2004-07) mark of 1,487 career digs.

Louisiana (8-6) recapped a 1-2 mark at the Lamar Tournament with a 3-0 sweep of McNeese State on Saturday.

The Ragin’ Cajuns return home this weekend for a three-match homestand at Earl K. Long Gym. UL opens Sun Belt Conference play with Troy on Friday, Sept. 24 at 5 p.m. and hosts South Alabama Sunday Sept., 26 at 1 p.m. The Cajuns will host a non-conference match on Tuesday evening, Sept. 28 with McNeese State at 7 p.m.
