Women’s Tennis: Wooland Advances To Day Two At ITA/USTA

Audrey Wooland advanced through the first two opening rounds at the ITA/USTA Regional Championships as Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns women’s tennis team concluded play late Friday night in Birmingham, Ala.

In the main draw, Wooland picked up her first win of the tournament against LSU’s Alexus Coats (6-2, 6-4). She then went on take down UAB’s Caroline Faught in the round of 32 – 6-3, 2-6, 6-1.

In Draw B singles, Mia Gordon and Tara Vasovic grabbed wins to advance in the tournament. Gordon won over La.-Monroe’s Medy Blankvoort, 7-6, 7-6, while Vasovic received a bye in the first round. In the second round, she was victorious over Jenny Cape of UAB, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Other Cajuns that recorded wins were: Julie Mazinova in the main draw consolation, Gordon and Sandra Alhqvist doubles and Vasovic and Hannah Appleyard in the Draw B doubles bracket.

The tournament will resume play on Saturday on the campus of Samford University.
