Golf: Fendt Finishes In World’s Top 20The University of Louisiana’s Philipp Fendt proved himself as one of the elite amateur golfers in the world after finishing in the top-20 at the World Amateur Team Championships in Buenos Aries, Argentina over the weekend. Fendt finished tied for 17th place, besting nearly 200 other amateur golfers from 70 different countries. He shot 71-71 to open the tournament, moving up as high as fifth place before a final round of 79 caused him to drop to 6-over for the event. Playing for his home country of Austria, Fendt was the top golfer on his home country’s team. His teammates, Florian Sander and Lukas Nemecz, finished further down the leaderboard with scores of 228 and 237, respectively. As a team, the Austrians finished in a tie for 21st place with a score of 449. France claimed top honors with a score of 423. Denmark (427), USA (428), New Zealand (435) and Scotland (436) rounded out the top five. Joachim Hansen of Denmark won medalist honors with a 6-under score of 209. This year’s tournament was shortened to 54 holes after severe weather halted play on in the second round.
