Soccer: Chatman Grabs Player of the Week Honor

After a historic win to close out the regular season, and Louisiana’s first berth in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament since 2007, one Ragin’ Cajuns soccer player has been recognized for her efforts.

Sophomore forward Cayla Chatman has been named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week for the final week of the regular season thanks to her two goals against rival La.-Monroe last Friday.

Chatman came off of the bench and scored two goals in less than a minute against the Warhawks in 6-0 Cajuns victory.  The goals were the fifth and sixth of the season for Chatman and gave UL a 4-0 lead going into the locker room at halftime.

The six goals by UL against the Warhawks set a school record for goals in a Sun Belt match.

Chatman has been the Cajuns spark off of the bench all season.  She has started just four matches, but is the second leading scorer on a team that has won 10 matches for the first time in school history.

The Houma native is just the fifth player in program history to earn SBC Player of the Week and the first to do so this season.

Chatman and the Cajuns return to action on Wednesday as they take on Denver in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Bowling Green, Ky.  Kick-off between the Cajuns and Pioneers is set for 10:00 a.m.
