Headlined by all six seniors, 14 Ragin' Cajuns soccer players have earned academic awards.

After a record breaking season on the field, the Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team has been recognized for its excellent work off of the field.

The Cajuns were recently named the recipients of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s Team Academic Award.

Headlined by all six seniors, 14 Ragin’ Cajuns soccer players have earned academic awards.

The NSCAA gives the award annually to schools that post a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher.  The Cajuns posted a 3.19 cumulative team GPA in the 2009-10 academic school year.

The team award wasn’t the only academic accolade the soccer program hauled in recently.  Fourteen members of the 2010 squad received Sun Belt Conference Commissioner’s List honors as well.

The recipients included Courtney Hofland, Kelli Jestes, Chelsea Balestra, Carleigh Martin, Kennedy Richards, Jordan Blevins, Amanda Moorefield, Gayla Foster, Megan Riley, Kayla Henrie, Cayla Chatman, Erin Gremillion, Delaina McGee and Melissa Minton.

"I’m incredibly proud of the girls for the work they’ve done in the classroom," said head coach Scot Wieland. "The girls have done a great job juggling academics and athletics, and they have shown what it truly means to be a student-athlete."

The slew of academic awards comes on the heels of the school’s first 10-win season in school history.  The Cajuns tied a school record with five Sun Belt victories.  UL also set a school record with seven shutouts.
