bullet Class of 2011 Bios

University of Louisiana head coach Mark Hudspeth announced 29 new members of the Ragin’ Cajuns football team on Wednesday.  UL inked 26 prospects to National Letters of Intent and had three additional student-athletes enroll in school for the Spring 2011 semester.  The mid-semester enrollees are not initial counters for 2011.

The players already on campus include; quarterback Terrance Broadway, who transferred from the University of Houston.  Broadway was a prized recruit in 2010, spurring offers from Alabama, Oregon, Nebraska, Mississippi State, Connecticut and Louisiana Tech to join the Cougars.  The Baton Rouge native decided to move closer to home after just one semester in Houston.  Junior college defensive end Blake Comminie comes from Mississippi Delta CC and will have two years of eligibility remaining after using his redshirt in 2008.  Freshman linebacker Trae Johnson graduated early from Mendenhall (Miss.) High and has already started his college career.  Johnson is eligible to compete in spring football.

Hudspeth and his staff coveted players close to home, as 25 of the 29 prospects hail from Louisiana and Mississippi.  The class is well balanced, with 16 offensive players, 12 defensive players and one specialist.  Offensive and defensive linemen make up more than one-third of the group, as UL brought in a total of 11 linemen.  The average size of the six offensive linemen is 6-foot-4, 281 pounds, while the five defensive linemen (mostly defensive ends) average 6-foot-3, 240 pounds.

"We were able to get some tremendous football players," Hudspeth said.  "We really feel like this class is going to be the future of great things to happen here at UL!

"It says a lot about our University, football program and the Acadiana community for so many great players to choose us as their college home."

Some of the Cajuns high profile commitments include Alonzo Harris, rated as the nation’s No. 2 fullback prospect by Scout.com, and Qyen Griffin, Mississippi’s Mr. Football who ran for 2,670 yards and 37 touchdowns his senior season.

The Cajuns running back prospects are ranked in the Top 40 nationally by Rivals.com, while the tight ends and defensive line are ranked in the Top 50.
