Men’s Basketball: Daigle honoredMen’s Basketball: Daigle honored Men’s Basketball: Daigle honored Joshua Parrott • jparrott@theadvertiser.com • February 6, 2011 Northside High School graduate Randell Daigle was honored in a ceremony prior to UL’s game Saturday against Arkansas-Little Rock for recently becoming the 39th player in school history with 1,000 career points. Daigle, a senior guard, topped the 1,000-point mark after scoring 13 points for the Ragin’ Cajuns in a 93-88 win over North Texas on Jan. 27 in the Cajundome. "It’s a milestone and an impressive total," UL coach Bob Marlin said. "Randell has scored a lot of baskets, and that’s one of his strengths. This is something we’ll always do, recognize our guys. We have a ball that is being painted and printed up for him. It will be a nice thing for him to have. It’s a good accomplishment for him, and we wanted him to enjoy the moment." With five points in last Sunday’s win over South Alabama and four points on Saturday, Daigle now has 1,018 career points. He moved past Chris Gradnigo (1,015 points from 2007-10) into 38th place at UL on Saturday. Old friendsUALR coach Steve Shields worked as an assistant under Marlin at Pensacola Junior College in the 1993-94 season. Prior to UALR’s 73-68 win over the Cajuns on Jan. 15 in Little Rock, Shields took Marlin out to dinner. Marlin returned the favor after UALR arrived in Lafayette on Friday night as he and Shields grabbed some Mexican food in town. Extra pointsThe Cajuns improved their lead in the all-time series against UALR to 20-15. UALR has still won seven of the past nine meetings "» UALR freshman guard Chuck Guy had connections to both Shields and Marlin prior to his college days. Guy attended Eastern Hills High School in Fort Worth, Texas, the alma mater of Senecca Wall, who played for Shields at McLennan Community College and Marlin at Sam Houston State "» The Cajuns are now 7-4 at home this season. UALR fell to 4-9 this season away from home.
