After a dominate performance in the 25th Annual Louisiana Classics, two Cajuns have been rewarded by the Sun Belt Conference for their efforts.  Gabriele Bridges has been named the Sun Belt’s Player of the Week and Ashley Brignac has been named Pitcher of the Week.

Bridges came to the plate 20 times on the weekend.  She drew 10 walks and hit seven home runs in five UL wins. The senior first baseman finished the weekend with 17 RBI, a .700 batting average, a .850 on base percentage and a 2.800 slugging percentage.

After hitting five home runs with 13 RBI on Saturday, Bridges didn’t see a strike on Sunday as Sam Houston walked her four times on four pitches each time.

Brignac made two starts on the weekend after missing all of 2010 due to injury.  The junior picked up the win in UL’s 14-1 win over Arkansas.  She struck out seven while giving up just one unearned run.  Brignac struck out seven more in a 4-1 win over Sam Houston with the one run being the only earned run the Cajuns gave up on the weekend.

The two John Curtis products helped lead the Cajuns to a perfect 5-0 record at the 25th Annual Louisiana Classics.  In those five games UL out scored their opponents 80-2.

UL will return to action this weekend when they host the Ragin’ Cajuns Invitational at Lamson Park.  Maine, Tennessee State and Stephen F. Austin will come to town for the three day event that begins on Friday.
