In his collegiate debut freshman Matt Hicks pitched four innings of no-hit relief and garnered the victory as Louisiana topped Southeast Missouri 4-2 in the series finale. A crowd of 3,352 was on hand increasing the weekend series total to a M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field record 10,603.

Clutch two-out hitting by Jordan Poirrier and a shutdown relief performance by freshman Matt Hicks lifted Louisiana to a 4-2 victory in the series finale with Southeast Missouri on Sunday afternoon at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field.

Poirrier ripped a two-out double to left center field in the seventh inning to score Greg Fontenot, who led off the inning with a his third hit of the game, to break a 2-all tie. Mike Petello followed with a single to shallow center field to plate Poirrier with an insurance run for the Cajuns (1-2).

With the exception of a one-out walk, Hicks retired SEMO (2-1) in order the final two innings facing only one batter over the minimum. That capped off a four inning relief stint of hitless baseball for Hicks who picked up the victory in his collegiate debut.

The win allowed UL to salvage a game in the series which SEMO won 2-1.

A crowd of 3,352 was on hand increasing the weekend series total to a M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field record 10,603. The series crowd broke the previous mark of 9,032 set against South Alabama in May 2003.

Up next for Louisiana is a mid-week, home-and-home series with Nicholls State. The Cajuns and Colonels meet Tuesday, Feb. 22 at "The Tigue" with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. UL visits Thibodaux on Wednesday, Feb. 23.

Poirrier and Petello led the offensive charge for the Cajuns, each posting two RBI. Fontenot collected a team-high three base hits.

Joey Satriano, last season’s closer, got the start for UL and tossed five innings of three-hit baseball. Satriano did not allow an earned run in his second career Division I start.

The Redhawks scored first for the third consecutive game, benefiting from an error in the first inning to plate two unearned runs.

Alex Fuselier and Tyler Frederick roped doubles in the first and second inning, respectively, however they would be stranded and Louisiana remained scoreless. Frederick’s double led off the second inning and then he was moved to third on a Jordan Bourque sacrifice bunt. Nothing transpired as back-to-back pop outs to shallow outfield ended the scoring chance.

UL would use a two-out rally – which saw four consecutive runners reach base – to pull even in the third inning. A walk drawn by Fuselier kept the inning alive and triggered the rally.

Poirrier lofted a fly ball to shallow left field that Michael Adamson could not reach on a dive and Fuselier motored home from first base with the Cajuns first run of the afternoon. Petello followed with a single through the left side to score Poirrier and knot the score at 2-all.

Both pitching staffs settled in posting scoreless frames over the middle three innings.

Poirrier’s two-out magic in the seventh inning vaulted the Cajuns into their first lead in the series and an eventual victory.
