Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns men’s tennis team won its third straight match after taking care of UT Pan America, 6-1, on Sunday at Cajun Courts.
The win moved the Cajuns’ record to 4-8 on the season. "This is a good end to a good weekend for us," said UL head coach Mark Jeffrey. "We need to carry this momentum into next week and keep it up at the Sun Belt Shootout." The match started with UL winning the doubles point. The Cajuns came close to sweeping the doubles matches after Carlin Murray and Ted Nilsson won 8-4 and Oscar Pachon and Carl Alberton won their match, 8-5. The Broncos won the no. 1 match, narrowly edging out Yanick Mandl and Brandon Farine, 9-8. In singles, UL cruised in straight sets to win five of the six matches. Murray won easily at the no. 2 spot, 6-1, 6-2. Robert Voss needed a first set tiebreaker in his 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 win from the no. 3 spot while Pachon won a second set tiebreaker to secure a 6-4, 7-6 (-5) victory at the no. 4 spot. Ted Nilsson, playing from the no. 5 spot, downed UTPA’s Sebastian Job, 6-4, 6-1 and Carl Alberton rounded out the scoring for UL with a 6-1, 6-3 win as the no. 6 singles. The Cajuns now turn their attention to next weekend’s Sun Belt Shootout. UL will face multiple conference teams over three days, starting on Friday, April 1 in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
