A day after sweeping the Sun Belt’s weekly awards, Christi Orgeron and Ashley Brignac have done the same with the Louisiana Sports Writers Association awards.

Orgeron was named the LSWA’s Hitter of the Week after posting 11 RBI in the Cajuns three-game sweep of Middle Tennessee last weekend.  That drove her season total up to 71, marking just the third time a Sun Belt or UL player surpassed the 70 RBI mark.  The junior slugger is just nine RBI shy of breaking Alana Addison’s UL and Sun Belt record of 79.

Brignac was named the LSWA Pitcher of the Week after throwing 16.0 scoreless innings and posting a 4-0 record including a win in all three games of the Middle Tennessee series.  The junior struck out 21 in those 16.0 innings and has now tossed 20.2 consecutive scoreless innings.

The honor is the third from the LSWA in 2011 Orgeron and the second for Brignac.

In other news on Tuesday, the Cajuns saw their 4-0 record from a week ago move them up in both Top 25 polls.  The Cajuns moved up one spot to 17th in the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 poll and three spots, to 17th, in ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 poll.  To view the complete polls, click the links above.

The Cajuns are in action this week as they host Nicholls State at home on Tuesday and travel to Florida Atlantic for a three-game set over the weekend.
