Jordan Nicholson pitched his first complete game in a Ragin’ Cajuns uniform Saturday evening at Riddle-Pace Field in Troy, Ala., handing the Trojans just their fifth home loss in 34 games, and as a result was named Sun Belt Conference and Louisiana Sports Writers Association Pitcher of the Week. Nicholson fired a five-hitter at the heavy hitting Trojans in their home park sparking Louisiana to a 17-1 triumph. The most impressive stat of his performance was that he needed only 96 pitches to finish off the Trojans. The Ruston native walked none and struck out seven, only surrendering an unearned run that came in the second inning. Nicholson held the Trojans scoreless over their final seven at-bats and wrapped up the victory by retiring 10 of the final 13 batters he faced while limiting the Trojans to a 1-for-7 showing in RBI opportunities He gave up just one hit in two-out situations and his performance lowered his season ERA 39 points to 2.24 as he improved to 4-2 on the season. Nicholson joins South Alabama’s Dustin Crenshaw as the only two pitchers – in 34 games total – to toss a complete victory against Troy at Riddle-Pace Field this season. This is the first time that Nicholson collected either award, and the second time a Cajuns pitcher was named SBC Pitcher of the Week (Taylor Hubbell, Feb. 28). Nicholson and his teammates are preparing for their final week of play at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field. Louisiana hosts Rice on Tuesday in a game that is sold out then over the weekend plays the final home series of the year facing Middle Tennessee. — Ragin’ Cajuns — ![]()
