Three members of Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns softball team were named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Region team as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Wednesday. A total of 256 players from 116 different institutions comprise this season’s regional teams, including first and second teams for each region.

Senior Gabriele Bridges and junior Christi Orgeron were named First Team All-Central Region while junior Ashley Brignac Picked up second team honors.

The first team selection was Orgeron’s second in as many seasons. The honor was Brignac’s second as well, earning second team honors in 2008. It is the first career award for Bridges.

Orgeron and Bridges, "The Bayou Bombers", rank first and third in the nation with 23 and 22 home runs, respectively.

Orgeron also leads the country with 97 runs batted in and is tied for first place with teammate Nerissa Myers with 73 runs.

Bridges ranks second in the country with 76 RBI and ranks fifth after drawing 58 walks this season. Her on-base percentage of .559 is ninth best in all of Division I softball.

In the pitcher’s circle, Brignac’s 30 wins ranks fifth for victories and is the second time in her career that she has reached the 30-win mark in a season. Her 10 shutouts rank in the top-20 and her ERA of 1.24 is 14th in the nation.

The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams. In addition, conference pitchers and players of the year not selected to the regional teams were added for All-America consideration.

The NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at 4 p.m. CDT on Wednesday, June 1.
