Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns announced on Tuesday the hiring of Daniela Sanchez as their new assistant soccer coach. Her hiring is pending approval by the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors. Sanchez comes to Louisiana after working in the private sector for four years. Prior to that, she spent a very successful four years as a midfielder at the University of Florida. Sanchez played in 87 matches for the Gators with 60 starts. She was a four-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member (2004-07) and led the Gators to two SEC Regular Season Championships (2006, 2007) and two SEC Tournament Championships (2004, 2007). She also led the Gators to two NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearances (2006, 2007). Sanchez was a captain for the Gators in both of those seasons and twice won the Iron Gator Strength and Conditioning Award (2005, 2006). "I have known Daniela since she was a freshman in college and have always been impressed with her character, play and work ethic," said UL head coach Scot Wieland. "She will be a great addition to our coaching staff and I am excited about the experience and knowledge of the game that she will be bringing in for our girls." Sanchez spent time as a youth soccer coach at the Suwanee Sports Academy in Suwanee, Ga., the J.A. Walters Family YMCA in Gainesville, Ga., and with the Gainesville Soccer Alliance in Gainesville, Fla. She also has experience as a volunteer with the University of Florida’s Club Women’s Soccer team and the Gators’ Strength and Conditioning program. — Ragin’ Cajuns —
