Baseball: Badeaux Coaching with USA BaseballBaseball: Badeaux Coaching with USA Baseball Baseball: Badeaux Coaching with USA Baseball
Ragin’ Cajuns baseball volunteer coach Brooks Badeaux has been selected by USA Baseball to serve as an assistant coach for the 2011 18U National Team. Badeaux is currently in Cary, N.C., where 144 of the nation’s top prep players began competition in the Tournament of Stars on Wednesday. These players form the pool of talent from which USA Baseball will select its 18U National Team. Following the Tournament of Stars, Badeaux and the 18U National Team coaching staff – headed by former Major League All-Star and World Series MVP Scott Brosius – will conduct team trials and training June 27-July 2 in Cary. Badeaux’s experience with Team USA culminates with the Pan American Championships Sept. 23-Oct. 2 in Cartagena, Colombia. This is the third time that Badeaux is involved with Team USA. He represented his country on the field when he participated in the 1995 Word University Games in Japan while a student-athlete at Florida State and as a minor leaguer was a member of the 2005 squad that competed in the World Cup in Holland. Brosius and team director Brant Ust made the decision to add Badeaux to the coaching staff. Ust and Badeaux were both members of the 2005 World Cup team. "I’m very honored to have the opportunity to do it again," Badeaux said." I look at it as being a little more than representing the country. It’s being patriotic. "Not many people know what it’s like to have USA across their chest. It’s one of the more remarkable feelings in baseball." The 18U National Team, defending gold medalist at the Pan Am championships, went 19-2 last summer outscoring opponents 74-14. A 6-1 win over Cuba secured the title in 2009. Along with Badeaux, joining the 18U National Team coaching staff alongside Brosius is former UALR head coach Jim Lawler and Miami native Willie Romay. — Ragin’ Cajuns —
