Track & Field: Video of 1965, 66, 67 Meets at McNaspy Stadium Posted

The AN is pleased to announce that videos of track & field meets at McNaspy Stadium during the 1965, 66, and 67 seasons have been posted on the AN.

To view these, please click on www.athleticnetwork.net
, Photo Gallery, Track & Field, then each of the years. The link for each year is posted at the top of each page for ease of location.

Why the power of 1? Claude Revels, (Track 70-72) spearheaded a reunion for former Track & Field performers. At the first annual reunion, Tommy Jameson, (Track 63 & 66)  discussed some videos he had of meets from the 1960s. One thing led to another, and Tommy took the initiative to have the tapes converted into DVDs and sent them to me.  From there, Russell Luna, Sports Information, posted the videos on YouTube. Once they were posted, Jeremy Perron, former AN student worker and recent UL graduate in Computer Science, linked each of the videos in the photo gallery of each of the years.  All of this – attributable to the power of 1 and the wonderful teamwork which exists to allow us to offer viewers what is available. Our videographers, Charles deGravelles and Katherine & Tommy Jameson, did a wonderful job of capturing the meet with equipment of that era.  Thanks to all who helped capture and preserve such important history.

If you will click on the "Select a Team" search engine in the upper left of www.athleticnetwork.net and highlight and click on "Cross Country & Track & Field" the teams are listed alphabetically by years. Click on a name and their profile will appear.

Yes, Jim Ryan, the great miler from the University of Kansas did run the mile at the Southwestern Relays in one of the video. Yes, he did get beat by our great John McDonnell…and the video proves it.

Are you aware that John McDonnell has won more national track titles as a coach that any other person in NCAA history? Click here for John’s AN profile.

The Athletic Network wishes to thank all of the above persons mentioned for making this happen. Each contribution helped us climb the stairs to getting the task accomplished.

The AN appeals to any former athlete or support group member to email athleticnetwork@louisiana.edu and provide information on any video, CD, DVD, etc., which you may have. Please provide us with the opportunity to document former athletes and support groups.

What is projected next in this area? Tommy sent me in today’s mail another CD of a 1968 track meet at McNaspy and scanned the written programs of the 1963 and 66 Southwestern Relays.
Remember the power of 1 and consider making your contribution. No one knows where it will end.

Peace, Ed Dugas
