Soccer: Howell-Harries Named to 2011 All-SBC Second Team 11/2/11

Freshman Grace Howell-Harries became the fifth Ragin’ Cajuns soccer player and first since 2007 to earn all-conference honors as she was named to the 2011 All-Sun Belt Conference Second Team, the conference office announced on Tuesday.

“It’s exciting to have Grace get this honor as a freshman,” head soccer coach Scot Wieland said. “She definitely has a good career in front of her here at UL. This is a credit to how incredibly consistent she has been in every game.”

Howell-Harries played in all of the Cajuns contests in 2011 starting in 19 games on the back line. She is one of only five players on the squad to register 20-plus shots on the year (22) while posting two assists and two points.

“One of Grace’s strengths is that she plays with a lot of composure no matter what pressure she is under,” Wieland added. “Her ability to keep possession in the back has really been key for us.”

The London, Ontario native provided the assist on the third goal vs. FAU, which proved to be the game-winner in a 4-2 decision.
