Men’s Basketball: Josh Brown Picks Up LSWA Player of the Week Honor

Josh Brown registered a career-high 23 points and hit two key shots in overtime to lift the Ragin’ Cajuns men’s basketball team to an overtime win over FIU on Saturday and was recognized for his efforts on Monday by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
 
Brown was one of three players awarded Louisiana Sports Writers Association Player of the Week honors. He shared honors with Corey Gray of Loyola and Maxx Nakwaasah of Centenary. All earned the same number of votes from the panel of voters.
 
Brown averaged 18 points and 8.5 rebounds for the Cajuns – both marks were team highs – during the South Alabama-FIU homestand. His biggest impact came in the overtime win over FIU in which he scored 10 of his career-high 23 points in the overtime period helping Louisiana avoid consecutive SBC losses at home for the first time since the 2007-08 season.
 
After UL fell behind 73-71 with 3:06 remaining in OT, Brown countered with triples on back-to-back possessions to provide the Cajuns with a 77-73 lead. Then in the final 1:01 of the extra frame knocked down four free throws to seal the victory.
 
Brown ended the FIU game 6-of-10 from the floor (3-of-4 three-point range) and 8-of-10 at the free throw line. He added 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.
 
Against South Alabama, the Ruston native posted a team-high 13 points. 
 
For the week Brown shot 52.4 percent (11-of-21) and went 10-of-13 (76.9 percent) from the charity stripe.  He posted double figures scoring in both games extending his current streak of double figure point totals to three games.
 
The Ragin’ Cajuns travel to Arkansas this week for meetings with UALR on Thursday and Arkansas State on Saturday. The matchups mark the first divisional contests for Louisiana in Sun Belt play this season, bringing an end to a string of five consecutive games against Sun Belt East division teams.
