Ashley Brignac made her first start of the 2012 season on Sunday, picking up her first win of the year over an inning and two-thirds of work, allowing one hit and striking out two hitters.

Nerissa Myers finished the day 3-for-4 on the way to a career-high seven RBI and her first career grand slam. Her previous career-best RBI total came last season against Troy on March 5, 2011 when she drove in five runs.

Paige Cormier launched her fourth homerun of the season having a 2-for-3 and four RBI afternoon. Sarah Draheim and Megan Granger each rounded the bases as they connected for their first homers of the year.

UL (3-0) wrapped up the weekend as the 26th Annual Louisiana Classic champions, finishing with a perfect 3-0 record. Louisiana scored 55 runs over the three game span and pounded out 46 hits, nine of which were homeruns.

Christi Orgeron was named the MVP of the tournament, while Myers, Cormier, and Briana Cherry joined her on the All-Tournament Team.

Every time Orgeron came to the plate it seemed like the opposing pitchers couldn’t get her out, as she completed the weekend with an astonishing .818 batting average, three doubles, two homeruns, 12 RBI, 1.636 slugging percentage and an on base percentage of .857.

Myers not only set the table for the Cajuns in the two hole spot but showed off some power with her grand slam on Sunday. The shortstop batted .429 and drove in seven runs, while leading the team in runs (10) and walks (5).

Cormier got her senior campaign off to a hot start, leading UL with four homeruns, a 1.818 slugging percentage and 20 total bases. The second baseman also had a .636 batting average and posted nine RBI.

Cherry roamed the centerfield position for the Cajuns all weekend collecting seven hits over the three contests for a .636 batting average. Cherry also had the squad’s only triple and drove in nine runs.

Katie Smith singled to start the game and Myers walked to bring Orgeron up with two on and no one out in the top of the first. The Preseason Sun Belt Player of the Year doubled to right center to bring the two speedsters around as the Cajuns jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. The next batter, Cherry, singled to right field scoring Orgeron, making the score 3-0.

The grand slam came in the second inning as Myers stepped to the plate and smacked her first homerun of the year over the centerfield wall, upping the score to 7-0 and the onslaught was on. Three batters later, Cormier came to bat with Orgeron aboard and homered to center making it a 9-0 game.

UL scored three more runs in the third as Erikka Murphy crossed home plate on an error by MVSU’s right fielder. Later in the inning, Myers doubled down the left field line plating Smith, and eventually scored on a Cormier sacrifice fly.

The Ragin’ Cajuns followed up their 11 run fifth inning against Tulsa on Saturday with nine runs in the fourth on Sunday. After scoring five runs in the frame making the score 17-0, Louisiana went back-to-back as Draheim hit a three run homer and Granger followed it up with a solo shot.
