Softball: Orgeron Tabbed Sun Belt Player of the Week
Louisiana softball player, Christi Orgeron, was named Sun Belt Player of the Week by the league’s office announced Monday afternoon.
The Preseason SBC Player of the Year, Orgeron, helped the Cajuns win the 26th Annual Louisiana Classics on their way to a 3-0 weekend, beating Rutgers, No. 24 Tulsa and Mississippi Valley State.
The New Orleans native was named the tournament MVP as she crushed the opposing pitching all weekend hitting .818, with three doubles, two homeruns, 12 RBI, 1.636 slugging percentage and an on base percentage of .857.
Orgeron began her weekend against Rutgers with a 3-for-3 performance, which included four runs, four RBI and a homerun. She was 4-for-5, with six RBI and a homerun against Tulsa, and concluded her week going 2-for-3 and drove in two runs against Mississippi Valley State.
The Cajuns return to action this weekend as they play host to the 8th Annual Mardi Gras Invitational, Feb. 17-19. Louisiana will be joined in the tournament by UTEP, Northwestern, North Carolina, Northwestern State, and Louisiana Tech.
