Softball: Orgeron Nabs Another Weekly Award
Christi Orgeron added another award to her weekly list as she was named the first Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Hitter of the Week for the 2012 season on Wednesday.
The LSWA is a weekly award for hitters and pitchers voted upon by the state’s sports information directors.
Orgeron was named the 26th Annual Louisiana Classics Tournament MVP and Sun Belt Player of the Week. She went 9-for-11 at the plate highlighted by five extra base hits and 12 RBIs. The New Orleans native also scored nine runs. Oregon’s best performance of the weekend was an impressive 4-for-5 effort with a homer and six RBIs during a 19-4 rout of No. 24 Tulsa.
The selection marks the fourth time Orgeron has been selected as the LSWA Hitter of the Week.
The Cajuns return to action on Friday as they host the 8th Annual Mardi Gras Invitational Feb. 17-19. Louisiana will be joined in the tournament by UTEP, North Carolina, Northwestern, Northwestern State and Louisiana Tech.
