Contact: Matt Hebert
Josh Brown represented the Ragin’ Cajuns men’s basketball team on the 2012 All-Sun Belt Conference men’s basketball team which was announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Brown garnered Second Team All-SBC honors, capping off his senior season with his first All-Sun Belt selection. It’s the third straight season a Cajun has been named All-Sun Belt.
Both overall and in conference play, Brown led the Ragin’ Cajuns in points and rebounds from the guard position during the 2011-12 season. He ended the season averaging 10.3 points and 6.5 rebounds.
He ranked fifth in the Sun Belt in rebounds, both overall (6.5 rpg) and in conference play (7.3 rpg).
In SBC play, Brown registered 10 double figure scoring games and averaged 11.0 points. The Ruston, La., native ended the season as the team leader with 16 double figure scoring games.
Brown was one of only 25 players in the SBC to average 10-plus points per game for the season. During his two-year stay with the Cajuns, the Odessa College transfer has accrued 520 points over 49 games (10.6 ppg).
During UL’s four-game win streak that vaulted the squad from 4-3 in SBC play to 8-3 and in contention for division title, Brown averaged 14.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. He posted back-to-back double-doubles (21 points/10 rebounds vs. Denver & 12 points/11 rebounds at Troy).
Brown’s selection to the All-SBC team increases the Cajuns’ number of all-time selections to 32 since joining the league in 1991-92. He’s the third Cajun to pick up all-conference honors under the guidance of Bob Marlin, joining Travis Bureau and J.J. Thomas who were named to the 2010-11 All-SBC squad.
Middle Tennessee’s LaRon Dendy was named the league’s Player of the Year and MT’s Kermit Davis was named the Joe Gottfried Head Coach of the Year.
Denver’s Chris Udofia was selected as the league’s Defensive Player of the Year, while Tony Mitchell of North Texas was named Freshman of the Year.
Brown and his Ragin’ Cajuns teammates travel to Hot Springs, Ark., this weekend to participate in the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Tournament. UL meets North Texas on Sunday, March 4 at 6:15 p.m., on the Convention Center Court.
