Senior Philipp Fendt posted his fifth career top 3 finish as he paced the Ragin’ Cajuns men’s golf team that finished in sixth at the 27th Annual Louisiana Classics after a windy day at Oakbourne Country Club on Tuesday.

“I’m extremely proud and happy, but no surprised by Philipp’s play,” head coach Theo Sliman said. “Coming down the stretch he had some opportunities to maybe win the tournament, and that’s what you want as a golfer. Since he came here four years ago, Philipp has been the epitome of our philosophy of learning and applying. This should be great experience for him to draw on for the remainder of the season.”

Fendt was one stroke off of his career-best score in relation to par posting a three day total of 210 (73-68-69) to finish in third at six-under par.

UL carded a three-day total of four-over par (868) as the Cajuns were two strokes back of Memphis for fifth place. LSU won the 27th Annual Louisiana Classics with a final score of seventeen-under par (847).

“I am proud of the guys for the effort they showed over the past couple days,” Sliman said.
“I know it is difficult play at home, but I think that we are a better team than we what showed this week. The good thing is that we have a chance to go out and prove it at the Border Olympics in a couple weeks.”

Sophomore Chris Weninger recorded his fourth top 25 finish of the season placing in a tie for 17th at one-over par (217).

Brandt Garon and Andrew Noto rounded out the scoring for Louisiana as Garon finished in a tie for 44th (221), while Noto placed in a tie for 47th (222).

No.25 LSU (859), Tulsa (861), No.45 SMU (861), No.21 Kent State (865) and No.43 Memphis (866) rounded out the top-five in the tournament. LSU’s Andrew Presley finished atop the leaderboard at 10-under par (206).

Yohann Vora placed in a tie for 32nd as an individual carding a three-day total of 219 (+3)/

The Cajuns return to action the week of March 16-17 when they head to Laredo, Texas for the Border Olympics hosted by the University of Houston.
