Men’s Tennis: No.57 Cajuns Sweep UT-Pan American

The 57th ranked Ragin’ Cajuns men’s tennis team improved to 5-1 at home after a 6-0 sweep of Texas-Pan American on Friday afternoon at Cajun Courts.

“I thought the guys played with great focus today,” head coach Mark Jeffrey said. “Jarred Wynan just keeps getting better with every match. Also Ted Nilsson is really becoming a team leader on the court.”
 
Due to the threat of weather, the two teams started with singles play. Ted Nilsson picked up a strong 6-1, 6-0 win at No.4 against UTPA’s Rolf Niederstrasser.
 
Jarred Wynan was next to finish at No.5 singles defeating Sebastian Job in straight sets 6-0, 6-2.
 
The Cajuns closed out the match with wins at No. 3 by Damian Farinola 6-2, 6-3 and No.6 by Carl Alberton 6-4, 6-2.
 
At No.2 singles, Carlin Murray fought his way back after falling behind early to win 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-4) over Ricardo Hopker.
 
Senior Yanick Mandl capped the scoring for Louisiana with his 7-5, 6-3 win over Beau Bernstein at No.1 singles.
 
“Yanick and Carlin both had tough matches, and it was good to see both of them fight through,” Jeffrey said. “This was a good result for us, but we have to move on as we face a tough opponent in Florida A&M tomorrow.”
 
UL returns to action tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. when they host No.69 Florida A&M at Cajun Courts.
